A bundle of sticks

He says, “I aint no faggot. What I need a tank top for?”
I say, “Don’t say that word around me.”
We say, “Goodbye.”
Now I love my cousin because he's family, but if wearing a tank top is the magic cloak for turning folks homosexual...then I'm kinda upset I just now discovered it! Call me…..queer. Gay. Prick. Sissy. But faggot? I looked up the definition to be sure that I properly school this fool, and this is what I stubbled upon:
fagot (n): a bundle of sticks.
Yes-- a bundle of sticks to beat the shit out of the next person who calls me a faggot. But I kept digging and found this:
faggot (n): a male homosexual
Now lets set something straight (No pun intended). Call me a ‘fagot’ with one ‘g’ and I’m a bundle of sticks. Call me a faggot with two ‘g’s’, and I’m a male homosexual. Call me either one or neither, and I’m still gay. The issue is that I found BOTH of these definitions in what is suppose to be a well respected scholarly source: Merriam-Webster Dictionary. Not sure if I missed that class, but I don’t recall ‘faggot’ being a legitimate word that should be promoted and allowed to circulate in society.
This research got me thinking. What about the ever so controversial topic of “er” versus “a” to accompany the notorious N.I.G.G. I promise you that I won’t bore you with a rant about which one is okay to use. But just THINK, it’s not okay to use fagot vs. faggot when referring to an LGBTQ person, so why would it be okay to say nigga vs. nigger to a BLACK person?
